An introduction to Herefordshire Gliding Club
what happens if they glided in hot dessert areas like in sahara dessert so it would fly infinitely because of thermal heat grounds?
Yes but no. A thermal only appears when the air relative to the other air is hotter, if you know what I mean. A thermal can still appear at low temperatures. But they won’t be as strong. So if you flew in the Sahara desert, it would be like any other place. Just with the thermals being stronger because the air is still really warm so it rises fast.
I was looking into gliders to help build and design a more efficient air plane
That's a sailplane! (Gliders are Boeing 737s, most of the time.)
I glid at Rufforth 30 years ago. It was fantastic then, and looks even better now! Thanks to all at the club.
its still crazy
When I was learning to fly gliders way back in the 1960s, I would often get asked by friends, "But what happens when the wind stops?" My stock reply was always, "Simple--you crash and burn."
The air lits it, but what pushes, instead of engine?
It goes forward by going just a teeny tiny bit down. By doing that, gravity will help it. Just like going down a slope on a bicycle.
I was actually hoping for some more detailed infos about the water ballast and why it's filled in on the outer wings first on a LS8 18 for example. I downloaded the manual, stumbled over that advise but can't find me any explaining for it. My intuition was actually to bring the weight as close to the center as possible. But the actual procedure somehow contradicts this assumption. And now I can't find any further information about it in the whole internet. Neither a video nor a website to explain it. Is somebody in here who knows? I'd be happy to get an answer from you. Thnk you.
I love gliding planes❤
New to this but love the electric sustainer concept.Seen a guy retrofit a zero motorcycle drive train to a old glider.
I'm not here because of that visual novel 😉
that's it in a nutshell!
hello there I would really like to learn gliding and own one in future. I like the video
If you are UK based you can find clubs here www.gliding.co.uk/club-finder/
Thanks. Had a great day's gliding recently as guest pilot. Started in gliding and light aircraft/Tiger Moths 56 years ago. Still flying and gliding. Thanks also for all your help with my historic airfields project 2 years ago. Much appreciated!
Large raptors do the same thing if you watch them closely.
We regularly share thermals with large birds of prey and often use them as markers of where to find the strongest up-currents
I'd so love to fly here I'm a member of Lasham Gliding Society Ltd, Gliding for me is less stressful than work when things go well. Once a glider pilot always a glider pilot
This is deserved so many likes❤
Nice video! Gives a very good impression about how the gliding club is operating.
After a life as a professional pilot in many areas of aviation. Nothing compares to the satisfaction of knowing how to seek out and use the bountiful supply of free energy in the atmosphere and to fly for hours and cover many miles in a glider.
Hi there, I am looking to actually start lessons in around 1 year from now. Is there any thing I can or should do in preparation beforehand that would assists my learning beforehand?
New Zealand, Australia and US gliding association publish great materials for beginning. I would recommend taking a look at everything below. New Zealand: Online training platform Australia: Australian Gliding Knowledge book. Winch Launching Manual book. Glider Pilot Certficate training modules 1-44. US: Glider Flying Handbook
Why ????
Its fun
@liro gliders who is starting a glider centre check it out
I don't like the social aspect of it. Why not just pay for lessons and only have to communicate with a pilot/instructor? Who would want to talk to these people... None of them even look like bodybuilders/hunks. Terrible complexions.
Do you live in Dersingham? Or is it just a coincidence?
I'm here after watching blue thermal
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
BEautiful! thank you!
I miss my days flying gliders in northern Micigan.
Yes, sociable until them cunts bring their home trouble to the airfield. If you would like to fly for free go hang gliding. It will cost you at least £40 per day to fly gliders.
Blue thermal!
wow I can turn this Gliders Aircraft concept into drone with low energy consumption
How?
Funny how ideal gliding conditions sometimes completely contrast ideal powered aviation conditions
gliders seem dangerous
Thanks very much. Just started flying a glider in MSFS2020 and this video came in very handy! :-)
Literally the best club ever I'm so so happy that I'll always be a gliding member here. There's an instructor for everyone so you'll absolutely love it here.
t'glider
Very well done video!
"We don't use wind, we use lift" -Proceeds to explain how they use wind to generate lift-
Very nice, I enjoyed that!
Understand gliding physics here ruclips.net/video/JyQ3sQcITT8/видео.html
I did, now I go burn
what
As a retired crosscountry glider pilot I have found that making the move to driving electric cars to be quite similar, just follow the energy and plan your journey. As a consequence I have never suffered from #rangeanxiety
😂 follow the energy. Or in other words follow the charging stations
Good video. Lots of Truth here, I'm enjoying my club (Greater Houston soaring association) and lessons 😎
hi
Fly for fruit in west of Sudan
sudan land has too much farming and vegetables and wheat so badly need development for business
God bless you all at Glider Britain...It is a essential to those to like me on the are in the way to be a glider pilot...Thank you so much...Hope glider fligths to be so easy as explanations...Great!!!
It is true if the wind stops that you fall out of the sky. That's why we need to keep airspeed up. We make our own wind over the wings!!!
This is the best explanation I've ever heard well done!
Great video! I am happy to start learning to fly with glider😊
I started there some years ago with a crap instructor. Had to give up. NOT affordable for me.
How much
